We Work With

If you are working with young people who are struggling and you're looking for a trusted, experienced partner to refer to or collaborate with, you're in the right place.

· School counsellors and welfare coordinators looking for external program support

· Teachers and year-level coordinators managing students with behavioural or confidence challenges

· Youth centre and community organisation workers

· Mental health professionals seeking practical, relationship-based referral pathways

· NDIS support coordinators and plan managers

· Case workers and social workers supporting at-risk young people and families

Why Authentic Steps Is Different

Most youth programs focus on the young person alone.

We don't.

What sets Authentic Steps apart is that we work with the whole family. Because lasting change in your teenager doesn't happen in isolation, it happens when the environment around them changes too.

That means we support you as a parent, not just your child. We help you understand what's happening, give you the tools to respond, and walk alongside your familynot just your teenager.

Programs and Services for Your Setting

We offer a range of flexible delivery options in-school, in-community, or online depending on the needs of your students and families.

School-Based Programs

We come to you. Our school-based programs are designed to run within your school environment, delivered by John Rutter and the Authentic Steps team. Programs focus on building resilience, self-esteem, emotional regulation and life skills in young people aged 10–17. A parent and family component is built in because we know that lasting change requires the whole environment to shift, not just the student.

Mentoring

One-on-one mentoring for young people who need consistent, trusted adult support outside of their immediate family. Particularly effective for young people who are disengaged, at risk, or struggling to connect with school-based support. John works alongside the young person and the family, complementing rather than duplicating the work of your team.

Individual Program

A structured program for young people who need more intensive support — building routine, purpose, and practical life skills. Suitable for referral from schools, youth services and case workers.

Employment Pathways

Supporting young people to develop the confidence, skills and mindset to enter the workforce. Includes practical work-readiness coaching and employer connection support.

Camps and Experiential Programs

Structured camp experiences that create breakthroughs for young people through challenge, connection and reflection. Schools and youth organisations can refer individual students or book group placements.

Professional Development

John is available to speak with school staff teams, deliver professional development sessions, and consult on whole-school approaches to student wellbeing and family engagement. Contact us to discuss.

TESTIMONIALS

CASSIE, Parent - Rock Solid Boys Program

My son went for his first job interview only a few weeks after finishing the program — he looked calm and confident. He starts work next week. Absolutely amazing to see him grow in such a short time."

BRONWYN, Parent

"John, we can't speak more highly of the work you do; it's just so important for families.
You were someone our son could connect with (other than his Mum and Dad) that really understood what he was going through and helped him from your own life experience, training and passion.  It was great how you got alongside M through coming to our home, shooting hoops with him and just being there for him.  You also helped Mike and I immensely by listening to what was happening from our perspective as parents and helped us with strategies and insight to help us navigate parenting situations and reset things in our home."

Let's Talk About How We Can Work Together
